AJPS Circulation Continues to Grow

The number of subscribers to the American Journal of Political Science (AJPS) increased in 2007. Individual membership grew from 3,642 in 2006 to 3,736 in 2007, and consortium subscribers (typically smaller institutional subscribers who receive electronic access to the journal) grew from 2,452 to 2,679. The total circulation for the AJPS in 2007 was 7,657 compared to 7,366 in 2006. In 2002, total circulation was 4,109.

Subsidized access to the AJPS is available through the International Network for the Availability of Scientific Publications (INASP) in the following countries: Armenia, Bolivia, Ecuador, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Moldova, Mozambique, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Senegal, Tanzania, Turkmenistan, Uganda, Uzbekistan, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. In 2006, there were 568 subscribers through INASP, and that number increased to 623 in 2007.

Electronic access to the AJPS is available to subscribers through Blackwell Synergy. The number of downloads has increased dramatically since electronic access was first offered in 2002. In 2006, AJPS articles were downloaded 107,010 times, and that number grew to 126,125 in 2007, an increase of about 18%.

Blackwell Synergy also gathers data regarding which specific articles are the most frequently downloaded each year. The most frequently downloaded articles in 2007 are shown below.
