| House Passes Bill to Preserve Electronic Messages |
| The bill, sponsored by Reps. Henry Waxman (D-CA), Lacy Clay (D-MO), and Paul Hodes (D-NH), modernizes the requirements of the Presidential Records Act to help preserve e-mail messages and other electronic messages for historical research. | Study Finds Hiring Academic Couples on the Rise |
| While the percentage of faculty members who are couples has increased 10% over the last 30 years, a study by the Clayman Institute for Gender Research at Standford University indicates that most faculty members do not know if their institution has a written hiring and retention policy for faculty members who are hired as couples. | Federal funding failed to outpace inflation for the second year in a row, according to the NSF Science Resources Statistics Division, the first two-year decline in the 35 years for which data have been gathered.
