Global Scholars Access Program

About the Program

The Global Scholars Access Program (GSAP)* is a membership initiative that supports scholars from low- and middle-income countries as classified by the OECD and the World Bank. Through this program, the Midwest Political Science Association (MPSA) offers a limited number of complimentary two-year electronic memberships to eligible political science scholars who are residing in and working or studying at a university in their home country.

This program is designed to promote broader international participation in the association and to expand access to key resources and professional opportunities. Recipients receive full MPSA membership benefits for a period of 24 months, including:

• Electronic access to the American Journal of Political Science (AJPS)
• Monthly member newsletter
• Access to job listings, professional resources, and other member-only benefit

*Global Scholars Access Program (GSAP) replaced the Developing Nations Scholarships in 2026.

Eligibility Requirements

Eligible:

You may apply for the Global Scholars Access Program if you:

• Currently live/reside in your home country, which is listed as a qualifying country (see list below), and
• Work as a scholar or enrolled in a university-level academic program in that country.

 Not eligible:

• Scholars originally from a qualifying country but currently:
  • Working or studying in a developed country (e.g., U.S., Canada, UK, etc.)
  • Residing in a developed country for other reasons (e.g., family, sabbatical, etc.)
• Scholars from developed countries temporarily located in a qualifying low- and middle-income country (e.g., Fulbright Scholars)
• Undergraduate students from qualifying countries.

How to Apply

To apply for or renew a complimentary membership through the Global Scholars Access Program:

• Log in to your MPSA account here.
  • If you are renewing an existing Developing Nations Scholarship or GSAP membership and have forgotten your password, click on ‘Forgot Password’ to reset it from the login page. 
  • If you are applying for a new GSAP membership and need to create a new account, click on ‘Create an Account’ from the login page. 
  • Avoid creating duplicate accounts. If you need help, contact MPSA staff at mpsainfo@mpsanet.org.

• Complete the application here.

Your application will be reviewed by MPSA staff and successful applicants will be notified of a decision via email.

Complimentary Conference Registrations

Scholars who receive complimentary membership through the Global Scholars Access Program are eligible to apply for a conference fee waiver. Learn more about conference fee waivers here.
